Doing a bit o’ blogging for Writer in Waiting…

Kimmi, over at Writer in Waiting, is busy busy promoting The Unbreakable Child and invited me to post a piece in her absence.

Luckily, something weird happened just in time and gave me an idea…

  1. Fantastic Jamie! You’ve done Kimmi proud. I had a similar experience right after the election. I’d stopped in at the liquor store to pick up some wine for our Obama celebration party. An old man in line behind me said, “It looks like you’re celebrating! Good for you! What are you celebrating?” I replied, “Our new president!” He proceeded to tell me that I’d voted for Satan (not kidding) and on and on and on. I am the queen of comebacks, so it was quite the scene. The poor cashier looked like she wanted to crawl under a rock and die. I wrote about it in my blog on 11.7.08. What is it with these right-wing, crotchety old men?

What would I have said to your grocery store jackass? “Plastic bags and disposable diapers are two of the biggest things in our landfills today. I’m doing my part by not putting any plastic bags there. Too bad you’re adding to the disposable diaper pile-up. Have a nice day.”

  2. Amusing. There’s something about grocery lines that seems to bring vitriol out of people. I’ve been yelled at for cell phone use while shopping. A truly unpardonable offense.

But you got him. Writers win. Have you seen that t-shirt mentioned in AW, I think, basically warning folks you might write about them so they should watch out? :)
